Con todas las excentricidades de la moda, muy pocos personajes logran lucirla como se merece, mezclando todas las tendencias de las diferentes temporadas, manteniéndose a la vanguardia y armando conjuntos que sólo se ven en las pasarelas.

Uno de estos personajes es nuestra invitada, que aunque no sea real, no importa mucho, igual es adorada y comentada por todas las personas que la conocen, y no podíamos ser la excepción, asi que para esta quincena Picnic se enorgullece en presentar a la fashionista #1: Fifi Lapin.

Fifi es una conejita aficionada casi hasta el punto de patología a la moda, heredera de una gran fortuna de su padre que trabaja en el mercado de acciones de zanahorias, Fifi cuenta su historia: «Hola soy Fifi. Fifi Lapin. Nací en una camada de 257 hermanos, pero tristemente cuando cumplimos un año hubo una epidemia de Mixomatosis de la que yo fui la única sobreviviente. Debido a ésto mis padres son increiblemente sobreprotectores y me consienten hasta dañarme. Soy la heredera de la fortuna de mi padre que creció cuantiosamente gracias a inversiones en el mercado de acciones de zanahorias y lechugas. Algunas personas piensan que soy una socialite pero creo que hay más de mi que ropa con estilo!»

Fuimos afortunados de conseguir a Fifi justo en el punto en que está ahora, casi volviéndose una celebridad, sus conjuntos se pueden encontrar en muchos blogs alrededor de la web, algunos tan leídos como Oh Joy!, y en revistas tan importantes como Vogue y Teen Vogue en donde dijeron de ella; «Si el mundo de la moda es una selva de prendas, la conejita con estilo Fifi Lapin reina con orgullo.»

Personalmente no se si Fifi sea una socialite, o si sea la reina de la selva de la moda, pero me parece que algo que agrupe moda, ilustraciones y conejitos en un sólo ítem no puede tener muchos lados negativos, o si? Asi que para los que están familiarizados con las pasarelas, aquí les queda una galería llena de conjuntos de sus diseñadores preferidos llevados como solo la Srta. Lapin los sabe llevar, y para los que no, siempre es bueno ver a los grandes diseñadores y más cuando los luce una genial modelo!

Excentric as the fashion industry is, very few characters manage to pull it off as it should be, mixing every single trend in each changing season, keeping up to date and pulling off ensambles that one can only picture in runway shows.

One of such characters is our guest, who, despite being a «non real» character, is worshiped and talked about by all the people who come across her, and because we at Picnic didn’t want to be left behind, here she is, we’re proud to bring you the number one fashionista: Fifi Lapin.

Fifi is a bunny who looooves fashion almost to a pathologic point, she’s the hare-ess of her father’s huge fortune, and she spends most of it in fancy and gorgeus clothing, in her own words: «Hi, I’m Fifi. Fifi Lapin. I was born one of 257 brothers and sisters but sadly there was an outbreak of myxamatosis when I was one year old and I was the only one that survived. My parents are therefore incredibly protective of me and spoil me rotten. I’m an hare-ess to my fathers fortune which he made playing fast and loose with carrot and lettuce shares on the international stock market. There are a lot of rabbits out there so I guess he just struck gold (or orange you might say). Some people think I’m just a socialite but I think there is more to me than just an extremely stylish clotheshorse!»

We were lucky enough to catch Fifi in her current «almost celebrity» state, since you can find her ensambles reviewed in many blogs on the web, some as big and popular as Oh Joy, and also in big publications such as Vogue and Teen Vogue, in which was written about her: «If the fashion world is a sartorial jungle, then style bunny Fifi Lapin rules the pride!»

I personally couldn’t tell if Fifi is a socialite, or if she’s the uncrowned queen of the fashion jungle, but I do know that someone that brings fashion, illustration and bunnies in a single item has won me over completely, wouldn’t you love her too? So, for those of you that are familiar with runway shows, here’s a gallery filled with ensambles of your favorite designers, worn as only the glamorous Ms. Lapin knows how, and, for those of you who are not familiar with the fashion worldm it’s always good to take a look at great clothing worn by such a great model!

Cuando Juampi Bonino dice que sus fotos de moda se inspiran en las bandas de rock no está mintiendo, con sólo darle una ojeada a su trabajo de moda para revistas como Dirrty Glam (Francia) y La Fuga (Argentina) se siente uno transportado a los gloriosos años 60’s y 70’s del Rock, como metido en un set de la película Almost Famous.

Pienso que lo que hace que las fotos de Jaumpi sean tan especiales es precisamente que tienen por detrás conceptos muy fuertes que se ven impecablemente plasmados a través de su lente, y no es que el chico se ponga con cosas sencillas, noooo señor, ha hecho editoriales de moda basados en conceptos tan complejos como las ilustraciones de Mark Ryden, la película Gummo y canciones de Lou Reed, todos estos temas siempre con su buena carga de Rock and Roll y mucha rebeldía que transmiten como un sentimientito de que uno puede quedarse joven para siempre, siempre idealista, en lugares en donde siempre es verano, o al menos siempre hay una hermosa luz natural que hace ver todo como un atardecer tranquilo, sin muchas preocupaciones. Todo esto, hay que decirlo, puesto en escena con su increíble novia Fab Silberstein que es la encargada de la producción, completando un dream team que ya lo quisiera yo para mí!

Cuando le pregunté al señor Bonino qué quisiera de sus fotos, me contestó: «me interesa que mis fotos tengan algo para decir, que las personas que las miren se queden con un mensaje, que quieran copiarme, que mis fotos sigan un guion como el de una buena pelicula y si no tienen guion que sean tan espontaneas, simples y geniales como una peli del Dogma 95.» Y tengo que decir, que ganas no me faltan de copiarlo, porque las fotos de Juampi se ven ahora a sus veinti tantos años, como yo quisiera que se vean mis fotos «cuando sea grande».

Juampi Bonino is not lying when he says his shots are inspired by Rock n roll bands, with just a glance at his fashion editorial work for magazines like Dirrty Glam (France) and La Fuga (Argentina) a person can time travel to the glorious 60’s and 70’s when Rock and roll was king. It’s Just like jumping into an «Almost Famous» movie set.

I really think that what makes Juampi’s pictures so special is the fact that they are backed by a solid and strong concept that is always impecably delivered through his lense. And we’re not precisely talking about easy stuff here, nooooo sir, he’s done fashion editorials based in such complex stuff as the movie Gummo, Mark Ryden’s illustrations and Lou Reed’s songs, all of them always filled with a truck load of Rock and roll and lots of rebelliousness that kind of give you the feeling that a person can stay young forever, forever idealistic in places where it’s always summer, or at least places where there’s always some gorgeous natural light that makes the world seem like an eternal sunset free of all worries. All of this is neatly achieved with the help of his amazing girlfriend Fab Silberstein who is always in charge of the styling, completing a dream team that I wish I had for myself.

When I asked Mr. Bonino what he expects of his pics, he answered: «What interests me is that my pictures have something to say, that people look at them and get the message, that they wish to copy what I do, that my pictures follow a script like that of a good movie, and if they don’t have a script, that they are as spontaneous, simple and great as a Dogma 95 movie». And I have to say that I can hardly repress my urge to copy what he does, because Juampi’s pictures now when he’s twenty something years old, kind of look like what I would like my photos to look «when I grow up».

Hay veces que uno se encuentra por ahí con imágenes que lo dejan sin aliento, sin saber muy bien por qué, le mueven a uno como algo por dentro que hacen que uno se pare y se quede, y se quede, y se quede…lo más bonito es cuando uno encuentra que detrás de las imágenes existen personas igualmente fascinantes…

Hace poco leí por ahí en un comentario de flickr esta frase de Holden Caulfield sobre los libros: “Los que de verdad me gustan son esos que cuando acabas de leerlos piensas que ojalá el autor fuera muy amigo tuyo para poder llamarle por teléfono cuando quisieras”. Bueno pues eso fue exactamente lo que yo hice con este personaje, no lo llamé por teléfono, pero nos conectamos por msn, y pasamos mucho rato conversando de toda clase de estupideces, y fue muy muy bonito descubrir que la persona detrás de las imágenes era casi tan, o más interesante que ellas. El tipo de persona que cuando se despide dice «buenas noches, que sueñes con gomitas», o que sus trabajos de los sueños cuando era chiquito eran: ser diseñador de aviones o escritor de novelas de terror, o el tipo de persona que reconoce que se inició en la fotografía por voyeurista, para poder espiar a las chicas del edificio del frente con la cámara de su hermana, valiéndose de su poderoso zoom.

Luis afirma con seguridad que es un retratista, y creo que todos los que hemos visto su trabajo estamos totalmente de acuerdo, no me lo puedo imaginar por la calle persiguiendo alguna noticia, cazando algún instante decisivo, no, sus fotos toman tiempo, toman escenificación, toman todo un proceso de aterrizaje del insospechado mundo de su cabeza, son, verdaderamente: trabajos.

Trabajos que son mucho mejor explicado con sus propias palabras: «Siempre negué mi sensibilidad artística; la asesiné desde que era un adolescente, la asesiné y la enterré en algún lugar de mi ser; después de eso pasaron años en los que me desempeñé como cineasta y filmé films y series de tv como director de fotografía, pero hace poco toqué fondo y sentí que estaba incompleto, volví a ver a esa persona creativa allí moribunda y le di una mano, de repente estaba cara a cara con esa parte de mi que había negado y ahora pienso darle un pasaporte para que salga y explore, para que tome el control, de lo contrario me declararé simplemente muerto en vida.

Pienso que parte de esa nostalgia contenida en esos años anteriores aparece en mis imágenes, creo que mi lugar esta en el retrato, por que de alguna manera he logrado conectar con personas conocidas o desconocidas en planos íntimos de su ser. Adoro las imágenes con un mensaje latente pero no del todo claro, sin una pose preestablecida, adoro entrar en los ojos de un desconocido y sentir por un instante que compartes un sentimiento; estamos solos? Lo voy a lograr? Tiene sentido todo esto? La pasas tan bien como yo?»

Bienvenidos entonces, damas y caballeros picniqueros al mundo de Luis Otero, al reflejo de sus sueños, al interior de su mente, a sus personajes inquietantes y sus colores imposibles; se les recuerda no sacar las manos del carrito ni tomar fotografías con flash.

There are times in life when you find images that simply take your breath away, and you don’t quite know why, they move stuff inside you and make you stop and stare, and stare….and stare. The best , though, is when you discover that behind such images there’s a person as fascinating as his work.

A while ago I read a brilliant comment in someone’s flickr stream, it was a Holden Caulfield quote about books, and it said: «The ones I really like arer those that when you’re done reading them make you think: I wish the author was a good friend of mine so I could call him on the phone any time». Well that was exactly what I did with Mr Otero, I didn’t call him on the phone, but we contacted each other through msn and we spent looong hours talking about all kinds of stuff, and it was really beautiful to discover that the person behind the images was just as interestinh, or even more, than them. He’s the kind of persons that says good night by saying «good night, have gummi bear filled dreams», or the kind of person whose dream jobs as a child were: plane designer or horror novel writer. The kind of person that admits to have started out in photography because he wanted to check out the girls on the building across the street with his sister’s powerful zoom lens.

Luis says that he’s most certainly a portrait maker, and I think that anyone who knows he’s work would agree, I can’t posibly imagine him running down the street chasing some piece of news, or hunting the long wanted «decisive instant», no, his pictures take time, take staging, take a process of landing his unknow world into ours, they are truly, WORKS.

Works that are much better explained in his own words: «I always denied my artistic sensitivity; I murdered it when I was a teenager; I murdered it and buried it somewhere deep inside myself; after that years went by and I worked as a film maker, as a director of photography for films and tv, but a little time ago I touched bottom and felt that I was incomplete, I saw that creative dying person and gave him a hand and all of a sudden I was face to face with that part of me that I had constantly denied. And now I want to give him a passport to come out and explore the world, to take control, otherwise I will declare myself as just a living dead.

I think that part of the nostalgia from all those lost years is shown in my images, I think I’ve found my place in portraiture, because somehow I’ve managed to conect with both people who are known to me and with strangers at a very intimate level of their being. I love images that have a message that is there but not entirely clear, those that don’t have a preestablished pose. I love to enter the eyes of a stranger and for an instant feel that you share a feeling: Are we alone? Am I going to make it? Does it all make sense? Are you having as good a time as I am?»

So welcome my picnicker ladies and gentlemen to the world of Luis Otero, to the reflections of his dreams, to the interior of his mind, to his unsettling characters and his impossible colors. You are reminded to keep your hands in the vehicle at all times and not to take flash photographs.

Art and Ghosts es el nombre que utiliza Louise para referirse a su increíble proyecto de ilustración y collage digital que empezó hace tres años después de que dejó sus estudios de artes plásticas por problemas económicos y por la tentación de lanzarse como ilustradora independiente. Y creo que cuando se tiene un talento y una visión de este tamaño, poco es lo que pueden hacer los estudios que no pueda hacer uno mismo estimulando el ojo y la creatividad continuamente, y precisamente, esto es lo que pasa con Louise que parece encontrar una inagotable fuente de inspiración en todas las cosas que la rodean, como ella misma dice: » Mis influencias incluyen un profundo amor por los cuentos de hadas, el floklore y la mitología. Me interesa muchísimo como estos temas atemporales se mantienen presentes y relevantes en el día a día de la vida contemporánea. También me gusta mucho la música y la narrativa, por lo que cada trabajo finalmente contiene su propia «pequeña historia».  A veces me gusta pensar en mis trabajos como «ficciones silenciosas», pequeñas narrativas que no tienen fronteras claras o desenlaces a la vista- lo que espero que anime al espectador a crear sus propias conclusiones personales sobre el trabajo. «

¡Y que «pequeñas narrativas»! yo me puse a mirar su galería de 540 imágenes y debo haber favoriteado por lo menos 490, si no fueron más, cada imágen que iba pasando era más hermosa que la otra, y no sólo por la parte estética o por el mérito como ilustración o collage, sino por los temas y los títulos, por la forma en que ella logra mezclar varios temas, personajes y situaciones en una imagen , elementos que aparentemente no tienen niguna relación pero que en estas imágenes forman una armonía contundente que acompañada de una escala de tonalidades pasteles hace que el espectador se quede hipnotizado, mirando los enormes ojos de sus protagonistas, los intrincados peinados, los detalles en colores fuertes como los zapatitos, los gorros y otros que se encuentran sabiamente posicionados en todo el trabajo de Louise.

Asi que aqui los dejo con el arte y los fantasmas de Louise, con sus mundos de ensueño, sus personajes intrigantes que parecen los hijos perdidos de Mark Ryden y Loretta Lux, sus lugares pasteles en los que personalmente me gustaría encontrarme algún día al despertarme de un sueño.

Art and Ghosts is how Louise named her incredible digital illustration and collage project which started three years ago after she quit her fine arts studies due to financial difficulties, and the temptation to try making a go of it alone. I really believe that when you have this ammount of talent and vision, there’s very little that studying can do that can not be done by one self by constantly stimulating your eye and creativity, and I think that this is precisely Louise’s case becasuse she seems to find endless inspiration in everything around her, as she herself puts it: «My influences involve a deep love of fairytales, folklore and mythology. I have a keen interest in how these timeless themes are still so present, so relevant in everyday, contemporary life. I am also quite driven by music and narrative, so that each work ultimately contains its own little ‘story’ so to speak. I sometimes like to think of them as ‘silent fictions’; little narratives that have no clear boundaries or resolutions in sight – which i hope encourages the viewer to come to their own, personal conclusions about the work.»

And what «little narratives» they are! I was looking through her stream of 540 images on Flickr and I must have faved at least 490 if not more. Each image that I opened was more stunning than the other, and not just because of the beauty in them or for the illustrative and collage merit, but also for the topics and the titles she uses and for the way in which she manages to mix topics, situations and characters in one image. These elements seem to have nothing in common but in these images they create an astounding armony, that along with a pastel tone scale, makes the viewer hipnotized as he stares into the huge eyes of the characters, their intricate hair stylings, the details in strong colors as tiny red shoes, hats, and others, that are wisely placed all through Louise’s work.

So here I leave you with Louise’s art and ghosts, with their dream like worlds, their intriguing characters that kind of look like the lost children of Mark Ryden and Loretta Lux, their pastel locations on which I would personally would like to find myself someday after waking up from a long dream.

Es increíble como puede uno vivir toda su vida en un país y no enterarse de que existen talentos tan impresionantes como el de esta ilustradora. Increíble que tenga que dar uno con ella por alguna recomendación de una amiga cercana después de 27 años de haber estado en el mismo código de área.

Afortunadamente ese fue mi caso, mejor haberla encontrado 27 años después, que nunca, y tengo que decir que una vez que la encontré quedé fascinada con sus mundos en blanco y negro, con sus personajes y sus pequeños acentos de color rojo furioso y colores piel.

Las primeras imágenes que vi de ella fueron de la serie «The end» y me quedé muuuucho tiempo mirándolas, como digiriendo esa interpretación del sexo como una explosión de naturaleza, del instinto, de lo animal, y también de lo bonito, de lo sutil y lo delicado que se expresaba por medio del acrílico en blanco y negro.

Después en la serie «Vidente» me encontré con las caras de personajes infantiles que me miran a los ojos y que parecen sacados de una alguna fábula o un fragmento de la mitología griega con sus ninfas y sus seres del bosque.

En la serie «Ojos que no ven» me sentí un poco sobrecogida por unos personajes pequeños que se ven casi devorados por un mundo en movimiento que se les viene encima con una explosión de texturas seriamente intimidante, y terriblemente hermosa.

Para terminar quedé hipnotizada con los «Vampiros» de Maria Isabel que caminan por lugares solitarios con sus ropas góticas y sus pelos negros, tan chiquitos en esa inmensidad del espacio que los rodea, que uno no puede evitar sentir la melancolía y la oscuridad de sus corazones que se expresa en su manera de vestir y comportarse.

Asi que aquí les dejo un poco del mundo texturado y detallista de Maria Isabel, espero que se tomen el tiempo de mirarlo y apreciarlo y que lo disfruten tanto como yo.

It’s amazing that you can live your entire life in a country and never discover such impresive talents as Maria Isabel’s. It’s amazing, also, that you have to find her one day by some recommendation from a close friend after 27 years of living in the same area code.

Luckily that was my case, better to have found her 27 seven years later, than never, and I have to say that once I found her I was completely fascinated by her black and white worlds, her characters and her little color accents in furious reds and skin tones.

The first images I ever saw from her were from «The end» series, and I stared at them for a loooooong time, kind of digesting that lovely interpretation of sex as an explosion of nature, of our instincts, of the animals in us, but also, of the beautiful, the subtle and the delicate displayed in black and white acrylic paint.

After that came the «Vidente» ( «Seer») series in which I found faces of childish characters who look into my eyes and seem to come out of a fable or a fragment of greek mythology with it’s nymphs and it’s forest beings.

In the «Ojos que no ven» (The colombian version of «Out of sight, out of mind») series I was a bit overwhelmed by some little characters that seem be almost devoured by a world in movement that comes upon them with an explosion of textures seriously intimidating, and terribly beautiful.

Finally I was hipnotized by Maria Isabel’s «Vampires» who walk through lonely landscapes with their gothic outfits and their black long hairs, so tiny in that immensity that sorrounds them, that you can’t help but feeling the sadness and darkness in their hearts as it is expressed by their dress code and behavior.

So, here I leave you with little bits of the textured and detailed worlds of Maria Isabel, I hope you take your time to look at them, appreciate them, and enjoy them as much as I did.

A Vicky la encontré alguna vez buscando fotos desenfocadas en flickr, una de esas galerías de flickr que uno empieza a mirar primero como con curiosidad y después con una fascinación que a medida que va avanzando se va convirtiendo en fanatismo.

Creo que ya varios conocen mi fetiche con las cosas bonitas de la cotidianidad, y pienso que eso fue precisamente lo que me enganchó perdidamente con las fotos de Vicky, como ella misma lo expresó cuando le pedí que escribiera un textico: “ Lo que me interesa es lo ordinario, la sombra en la pared o el pliegue de la cortina…Me gustaría poder hacer que la gente sintiera más con estas cosas, que apreciara esos momentos del día a día, esos lugares comunes que todos experimentamos alguna vez, y tratar de alguna forma de recordar que el tiempo está pasando rápidamente.”

Y es que ella no se viene con problemas cuando se trata de elegir sujetos para sus fotos, todo sale bien representado frente a su colección de cámaras de formato medio, ya sea con las “Toycam” Holga o Diana de Lomography, o con una señora cámara como la clásica Hasselblad, todo tipo de objetos revelan su magia cotidiana frente al lente de esta chica: escenas domésticas, retratos, suburbios, paisajes, naturaleza, playas, etc.

Vicky es el tipo de fotógrafa que existe para demostrarle hasta al más purista que el foco está sobrevalorado, que se puede hacer arte a partir de la vida diaria y que la fotografía analógica, en medio de la explosión digital, tiene muchísimo que ofrecer para todo aquél que sepa apreciar sus pequeñas imperfecciones: “Amo las imperfecciones de la película, los momentos de azar y su carácter impredecible que la hacen muy parecida a la vida misma…se siente como una colaboración entre el sujeto, la cámara y yo.”

Así que prepárense para NO ajustar sus pantallas queridos televidentes, muchas de las fotos están desenfocadas, son hermosas y llenas de magia y las amamos así.

I found Vicky in Flickr as I looked for unfocused pictures. She has one of those Flickr photostreams where you start looking around just out of curiosity, which quickly turns into fascination, which, as you keep on looking, turns itself into fanatism.

I think a few of you are familiar with my interest and apreciation of beautiful things in the everyday life, and I think that this was precisely what got me hooked on Vicky’s pictures, as she said herself when I asked her to write a short text: “It’s the ordinary that interests me, the shadow on the wall, or the fold of a curtain…..I’d like to make people feel more, to appreciate those everyday, commonplace moments we all experience, and sometimes to be reminded how quickly time is passing.”

Another thing I loved about her shots is that subject is never an issue for her, everything looks great if it’s seen through her collection of 120mm cameras, either with toycams such as Lomography’s Diana or Holga, or with all time medium format classics as the Hasselblad, all kinds of subjects reveal their magic in front of her lense: domestic scenes, portraits, suburbs, landscapes, nature, beaches, etc.

Vicky is the kind of photographer that exists to probe even to the most purist of photographers that focus is overrated, that art can be found in daily life, and that film photography has a lot to offer (even in the realms of this digital explosion) to everyone who cares to look closer and appreciate it’s little imperfections: “I love the imperfections of film, the moments of chance, the unpredictability of it, much like life itself…..it feels like a collaboration between me, the subject, and the camera.”

So, our beloved viewers, prepare yourselves to NOT adjust your screens because the pictures are mostly out of focus, they’re beautiful, filled with magic, and we love them that way.

Encontré a Ksenia en el flickr por una de esas cadenas de recomendaciones que ya ni recuerdo. Pero lo que si recuerdo es lo asombrada que quedé después de mirar su stream. Asombrada de que con imágenes una persona pudiera transmitir la naturaleza de una manera tan….tangible. Las fotos (en su mayoría hermosísimos autoretratos que ella dice que hace «para tratar de fijar la alegría y el estado de ánimo de cada día) tienen algo que hace que no sólo uno pueda ver los lugares, sino además, oir los pajaritos, oler los pinos, respirar el aire puro y oir el viento en las hojas de los árboles. Y es facil entender por qué si se tiene en cuenta que cuando le pedí que me enviara un texto sobre ella, me contestó con esto: «Vivo en Vatutinki. Es un pueblo chiquito y tranquilo no muy lejos de Moscú. A pesar de esto es muy diferente a Moscú-el hecho es que este pueblo en realidad no es un pueblo, es más bien un bosque- Y creo que eso es lo más importante para mí. Amo a los bosques más que a cualquier cosa en el mundo porque disfruto mucho las cosas que veo ahí- los árboles, el agua, el aire, los peces y todas esas cosas-. Si mis amigos y yo salimos a caminar, seguramente iremos a nuestro bosque.»

Asi que aquí les quedan algunas de las fotos de Ksenia, algunos de sus mágicos bosques que parecen el escenario de el Sueño de una noche de verano de Shakespeare, con ella como protagonista (porque ella misma parece un hadita con su pelo corto y sus ojos grandes) y con su toque personal que me hace soñar en imágenes con una banda sonora de «Good friday» de Cocorosie.

I found Ksenia on flickr through one of those neverending chains of recomendations that I can’t even remember. What I do remember is how amazed I was as I looked through her photo stream. Amazed to find that someone could actually make nature so tangible through images. The pictures (most of them incredibly gorgeous self portraits that she says she does as «kind of an attempt to fix the joy and the mood of each day») have something that makes you not only able to see the places, but also to hear the birds singing, smell the pine trees, breath the air and hear the wind in the leaves. And it’s really easy to understand why, if you consider that when I told her to write a short text about herself she sent me this: «I live in Vatutinki. It’s a small quiet town not far from Moscow. It differs from Moscow very much – the fact is that this town is not really a town, but a forest. And, I think, it is the most important thing for me. I love forests more than anything else in the world, I really enjoy everything I see there – trees, water, air, fish and all that stuff. And if me and my friends go walking, we would certainly prefer to go to our forest.»

So here you have a small selection of Ksenia’s pictures, some of her magical forests that look just like the scenery of Shakespeare’s Midsummer night’s dream, with her as a leading lady (because she almost looks like a fairy herself with her short hair and her big eyes) and with her very unique touch that makes me dream of images that should have Cocorosie’s «Good Friday» as a soundtrack.

Con un estilo retro que lleva a pensar en las publicidades de los autocinemas de los años 50 (si, esas en las que salían bailando las salchichas y las cosas que vendían en la cafetería), Sonni crea personajes que salen de las cosas de la vida diaria, empezando por casitas con piernas flacas, papeles higiénicos con barbita y gomas de borrar tristes y terminando con curiosos señores peludos con barbas largas y muy buena onda que se encuentran por todos lados llenando las paredes de las calles de Buenos Aires.

No se a ustedes pero a mí personalmente me parece que hay algo en las almohaditas amorosas en la cama, o en el viejito que sigue siendo un niño y jugando simon, que me saca una sonrisa y me da una sensación en el estómago como de haberme tomado una taza grandota de chocolate caliente.

With a retro style that points to the old 50’s drive-in movie theaters’ publicity (yes, those with the sausage and the snacks dancing aorund), Sonni creates characters that come from the day to day life, starting with little houses with thin legs, toilet papers with a goatie and sad tiny erasers, and ending up with curious men with long beards and an amazing attitude that crowd the walls around the streets of Buenos Aires.

I don´t know about you guys, but personally I find that there’s something in the loving pillows lying on the bed, or the old man that remains a child by playing simon, that manages to bring a big smile to my face and gives me a warm feeling in my stomach like the one I get when I drink a big cup of hot chocolate.
